Box Score

COMMERCE, Texas
- Abilene Christian will play host to the upcoming Lone Star Conference Soccer Championship after clinching the No. 1 seed behind a 2-0 win at A&M-Commerce Sunday afternoon. The postseason tournament will take place at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch the weekend of Nov. 3 to 6.

The victory lifted the nationally ranked No. 2 Wildcats' overall record to 15-0-1 and conference mark to 11-0-1, keeping them nine points ahead of second-place Midwestern State with two matches remaining. ACU will face the Mustangs in Wichita Falls this Wednesday before wrapping its regular season next Sunday at home vs. West Texas A&M.

After playing through a scoreless first half in which the two sides combined for 11 shots and four saves, the Wildcats finally hit paydirt early in the second frame on Andrea Carpenter's 12th goal of the season in the 50th minute. Krysta Grimm made it a 2-0 match after booting in ACU's first penalty kick attempt in the 70th minute.

Julie Coppedge assisted on Carpenter's goal, giving her five on the season.

The shutout was ACU's ninth of the year as goalkeepers Elliott London (14-0) and Arielle Moncure combined for 10 saves. All five of Moncure's saves came during the final 14:23.

The Wildcats have won a program-best 10 straight matches following a 1-1 tie vs. Incarnate Word on Sept. 16, and their unbeaten streak now stands at 21 with their last loss taking place at Commerce on Oct. 29, 2010. Two more victories and ACU will tie last year's program win total of 17 (17-3-1).

Match times and pairings for the Lone Star Conference Championship will be determined later this week. Two matches will take place Thursday (first-round) and Friday (semifinals) with the championship scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. The tournament includes the league's top six teams with the top two clubs receiving a first-round bye.

Abilene Christian won last year's championship as the No. 2 seed, beating both Angelo State and Midwestern State en route to its first NCAA Championship appearance.
