SAN ANGELO, Texas - A pair of late goals from senior
Ashley Holton combined with a season-best 11 saves from goalkeeper
Elliott London kept the Abilene Christian soccer team's winning streak alive at nine matches, following a 2-1 comeback victory at San Angelo Sunday afternoon.
The victory improved the No. 2 Wildcats' season and conference records to 13-0-1 and 9-0-1, respectively, while the Rambelles fell to 5-8-2 (4-5-2 LSC).
Angelo State scored on its first shot of the match in the 10th minute after Lauren Carenes collected a loose ball in the goalmouth. It was her second goal of the year and gave the Rambelles a 1-0 lead for over an hour until Holton punched in the equalizer in the 72nd minute off an assist from defender
Lexi Stirling - her third of the season.
Holton then won the match in overtime with a strike in the 100th minute, gaining control of the ball from relief goalkeeper Danielle Edwards with 15 seconds remaining in the first overtime. Holton's goals were her fourth and fifth of the season, giving her 13 points.
ASU fired 13 more shots over the match's remaining 90 minute but couldn't get another past London whose save percentage jumped to .913 as a result of today's effort. London made a strong stand near the end of regulation when ASU's Hanna Horeis fired off two strong shots on goal against her.
Rambelle's starting goalkeeper Morgan Harrison made four saves on 12 shots faced.
The Wildcats return to action Friday for a 4 p.m. match at Texas Woman's.
