Wildcats' Rally Falls Short

ABILENE – ACU took a feverish comeback that fell short Saturday afternoon falling to Eastern New Mexico 98-86 in Lone Star Conference South Division action from Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats dropped their sixth straight as they fall to 8-10 overall and 0-6 in South Division play while the Greyhounds improve to 8-10and 3-3 in the LSC. ACU finishes the first half of conference play on Wednesday night in San Angelo as they meet rival Angelo State.
After trailing by as many as 21 the Wildcats were able to cut the Greyhound lead to just one point after a feverish press and scoring 15unanswered points. A steal by Desmond Woodberry and layup at the 7:48 mark made it 69-68.
However, the Wildcats could never push over the hump as Eastern New Mexico would extend the lead back to 13 at 79-92 with just under two minutes left before Zach Williams hit a three to end the Greyhound run.
ACU tied a season high with 18 steals and forced 26 turnovers, but Eastern New Mexico sank 17 three's and shot a blistery 65 percent from behind the arc to seal the win. Stefan Mirabal scored 28 with all but three points coming from behind the three point line.
Zach Williams led ACU with 25 points his second highest total of the season.
The Wildcats also struggled from the line with 32 attempts but was able to only knock down 21 while the Greyhounds shot 82 percent from the line on nine fewer attempts.
Woodberry and Preston Davis also reached double figures as Davis had11 points and 7 assists while Woodberry added 10 points and 6 steals.
