ODESSA – Three second half goals propelled ACU to a 3-0 victory over UT-Permian Basin on Tuesday in Odessa. Arielle Moncure was in the net for the Wildcats fifth shutout and helped move ACU to 5-1 on the season.
Freshmen Andrea Carpenter added an assist for the Wildcats first goal finding Katherine Garner just outside the box after a scoreless first half. Just 13 minutes later ACU added their second goal when Julie Coppedge put her second goal of the season in the upper right corner giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats out-shot the Falcons 17-5 with all five of their shots coming in the second half. Only two of the five shots for UTPB were on goal as Moncure easily held the Falcons off the score board finishing with two saves.
ACU would finish the scoring when Carpenter sent a header from the middle of the box in the 87th minute moving the final score to 3-0. With Carpenter's goal she now has seven goals on the season quickly moving her up ACUs young record book.
The Wildcats will open Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they return home to host 25th-ranked Midwestern State. ACU will try to avenge two losses from MSU including a season ending loss in the first round of the LSC Post-Season Tournament. Kickoff for Friday's match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
