SAN ANTONIO – The ACU Wildcats continued their hot start to the 2010 soccer season Friday with a 5-0 shutout victory over St. Mary's in non-conference play at the St. Mary's Soccer Field.
The Wildcats are now 3-0 on the season with all three victories coming via shutout. ACU has outscored its opponents 10-0 this season and has almost scored half as many goals through three matches as it did in 19 matches last season (23 goals total).
ACU got the scoring started just 6:06 into the contest when
Courtney Wilson put the ball past St. Mary's goalkeeper Mari Edwards on a penalty kick. That was all the Wildcats needed as
Elliott London stopped four shots in the first half and
Arielle Moncure stopped two more in the second half.
Andrea Carpenter scored twice in the match, the first coming at the 34:21 mark of the first half to make it 2-0 before
Jacey Ferrara scored just before the end of the first half (44:58) to make it 3-0 at the break.
In the second half,
Roxy Marsh took a pass from
Katherine Garner and scored in the 67th minute to make it 4-0 before
Kendall Cooper found Carpenter with an assist and Carpenter scored in the 72nd minute to make it 5-0.
The Wildcats will be back in action next Thursday in Dallas when they take on Dallas Baptist in another non-conference match.
