ABILENE – Brittany Rexroat pitched a complete game for her second win of the series against Eastern New Mexico on Sunday afternoon picking up a 4-2 win. The Wildcats moved to 5-9 in the Lone Star Conference while the Zias fell to 2-12.
Rexroat went the distance scattering seven hits and allowing only two runs for her ninth win of the season. The two runs came on a homerun off the scoreboard in leftfield off the bat of Michelle Anderson.
ACU would cut the lead in half in the fourth inning when Missy Mendoza hustled her way to a single down the left field line to lead off. Mendoza scored three batters later when Nancy Sawyers singled for her only hit and RBI of the day.
In the fifth inning the Wildcats would take the lead for good as Stephanie Tingle led the inning off with a single to left. Back-to-back singles from Caitlin Nabors and Shawna Barrow would load the bases for Mendoza who hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Tingle. Andi Anti kept the inning alive with a two-out double off the centerfield wall scoring Nabors and Barrow for a pair of RBIs.
Rexroat took care of the rest for ACU in the field as she worked her way out of trouble stranding three Zia base runners in the sixth and two more in the seventh. She only walked two while striking out four in the Wildcat win.
The Wildcats will finish the regular season next weekend as they travel to Canyon for the season finale against first place West Texas A&M. The Friday will be a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. while Saturday's game starts at noon.
