ABILENE – The Wildcat softball team picked up their first sweep of the season taking two from Texas A&M-International Wednesday at Wells Field. ACU knocked around 25 hits and outscored the Dustdevils 18-2 in Wednesday's twin bill.
ACU improved to 14-20 with the sweep before returning to conference play this weekend at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Wildcats split all three days of the Lone Star Conference Crossover as their bats and pitching have started to respond on the same days.
Today was even more so as five ACU hitters recorded multiple hits including Shawna Barrow and Brianna Fowlkes.
Barrow went 5-for-7 on the day including 3-for-3 in game two. She collected four RBIs and scored four runs for the Wildcats as she also padded her stolen base record adding three more in the doubleheader.
Fowlkes picked up the start at first base before moving over to third base in game two replacing an injured Nancy Sawyers. Fowlkes homered in both games with her bomb in game one being the difference helping ACU to a 2-1 victory. In game two she drilled a grand slam during a nine-run third inning.
Shelby Hall picked up her fifth win of the season as she crossed the 100 inning plateau for the season. She scattered seven hits allowing only one run while striking out four.
Brittany Rexroat added another quality start for the Wildcats in game two picking up her seventh win of the season. Rexroat allowed four hits as she was pulled for Kim White after the Wildcats posted a nine-run third inning. Both pitchers only allowed a run on five hits while combining for three strikeouts in the 16-1 win.
The Wildcats return to LSC play on Friday as they tangle with the Javelinas in Kingsville. First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m. as Saturday's start will begin at noon.
