Wildcats Split Again

DURANT Okla. – ACU fought for a split on day two of the Lone Star Conference Crossover picking up a win over East Central before falling to Central Oklahoma in the nightcap. A comeback win for the Wildcats against East Central gave them a 9-7 win and a nine-run fourth inning propelled Central Oklahoma to a 9-5 win in game two.

Game one recap

For the second day in a row the Wildcats posted a come from behind win at the Lone Star Conference Crossover beating East Central 9-7. Capped off by a five run six-inning the Wildcats picked up their second win of the Crossover at the Durant Mulit-Sports Complex in Durant, Oklahoma.

A lead-off double from Brianna Fowlkes started the Wildcat rally in the sixth inning. Caitlin Nabors singled to left center with the bases loaded scoring Fowlkes and keeping the bases loaded for ACU. Shawna Barrow would tie the game, 7-7 with a pair of RBIs scoring pinch runners Genevie Ramirez and Amy Bransford.

Missy Mendoza would give ACU the lead on a sacrifice fly scoring Barrow. Jenny Kulp would add an insurance run of the Wildcats on a Texas league single that scored Stephanie Tingle making the final score 9-7.

East Central took an early 2-0 lead and would add four more runs in the top of the third. Courtney Gaines blasted a grand slam giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead. However the Wildcats would cut the lead to two when Mendoza singled for two of her three RBIs in the game.

Cassandra Nordie tripled to lead-off the fifth for East Central and would score on a Hillary Hughes single. That would be all the Tigers would manage before leaving runners at second and third to end the game in the seventh inning.

Andi Anti was 3-for-3 including a two-run homerun in the fourth that cut into East Central's lead.

Barrow, Tingle, and Nabors all had two hits for the Wildcats while Barrow added two runs scored and two RBIs.

Game two recap

The Wildcats fell in game two after a nine-run fourth inning from Central Oklahoma proved to be enough

for a 9-5 win.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Barrow lead-off with a walk and a stolen base. She scored on a Mendoza double the drilled the center field wall for her only hit and RBI in the night cap.

ACU would add single runs in the fourth and fifth to chip in to the Bronchos lead and added two more in the sixth. A double by Nancy Sawyers who went 2-for-2 and a single by Barrow who also had two hits scored the Wildcat runs in the seventh. 

All nine runs were charged to ACU starter Shelby Hall who fell to 4-11 on the season. Kim White who came in relief went 3.1 innings scattering five hits and holding Central Oklahoma scoreless.

ACU will finish the LSC Crossover tomorrow with a pair of games against Northeastern State and Midwestern. The first game will start at 2 p.m. while the nightcap is scheduled for 4 p.m.
