ABILENE – Coming back from spring break the 7th-ranked Wildcats swept Northwest Missouri and Hardin-Simmons Wednesday at the Eager Tennis Center. ACU shut-out the Bearcats 5-0 before rain shortened the match and also blanked the Cowgirls 9-0 in the nightcap.
The Wildcats jumped out on Northwest Missouri sweeping doubles action with the nationally ranked pair of Jaclyn Walker and Dina Pavlin leading the way with an 8-2 win. Rain shortened the match as both teams' finished No.1 and No.2 singles when rain started to fall and lighting caused a delay. Since ACU had already picked up the win the match was called so that both men's teams could get their matches in.
ACU was dominant in singles as well with Julia Mongin blanking Lisa Pendrak, 6-0, 6-0. Jaclyn Walker also picked up the other singles win 6-2, 6-1 over Erica Leston.
In the nightcap against nearby Hardin-Simmons was also a perfect sweep defeating the Cowgirls 9-0. In No. 1 singles Hardin-Simmons pushed ACU's Dina Paviln in the day's only close match for the Wildcats however, Paviln prevailed 7-6, 7-5.
The Wildcats are back in action this weekend hosting East Central on Friday, before a doubleheader with Central Oklahoma and University of the Southwest on Saturday. ACU will then travel next weekend to the famous Blue-Grey Classic in Mobile, Alabama where they will meet some of the nation's top teams in Division I and II.
