Wildcats Stay Perfect In LSC

ABILENE – Another solid defensive performance allowed ACU volleyball to defend their first national ranking of 2010 as No. 21 took out Southwestern Oklahoma, 3-1 Saturday night at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats had three players with double figure digs as they held the Bulldogs to a .053 hitting percentage. The defense also stepped up with nine blocks as a team with five Wildcats recording at least two blocks or more in the win.
ACU took the first two sets easily 25-18 and 25-15 before dropping the third set 25-23. Head Coach Kellen Mock allowed a number of freshmen to see the floor in the third set with only one junior, libero Kelsie Edwards on the court falling 25-23. The Wildcats quickly rebounded to a 25-12 win to close out the match.
Sophomore Kalynne Allen led ACU with 17 digs having an excellent defensive game adding a block. Edwards was close behind with 16 digs for the Wildcats.
Offensively ACU had three players have a solid afternoon as Neely Borger led the Wildcats with nine kills hitting .467. Along with Borger, Shawna Hines and Jennie Hutt both hit over .300 helping the Wildcats to their 16th win of the season.
The win moves ACU to 16-3 and 6-0 in the Lone Star Conference while Southwestern Oklahoma falls to 6-15 and 1-6 in league play. ACU will close out their home stand on Tuesday night inside Moody Coliseum against UT-Permian Basin at 7 p.m.
