Culbert, West knock off East

KINGSVILLE -- ACU senior safety Major Culbert was on the winning side Friday night in Valero Cactus Bowl as he and his West All-Star teammates pitched a 16-0 shutout against the East All-Stars in the annual NCAA Division II all-star football game at Javelina Stadium.

Former ACU safety Tony Harp -- a four-year starter for the Wildcats and three-time all-Lone Star Conference South Division performer -- was on the East squad.  Harp finished with two tackles and one fumble recovery for the East.

Former Texas A&M-Kingsville quarterback Billy Garza accounted for the game's only touchdown as he threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to former Southeastern Oklahoma State receiver Jerome Hewitt on the first play of the second quarter to give the West a 7-0 lead.

Former Central Washington kicker Garrett Rolsma hit three field goals (48 yards, 34 yards and 40 yards) for the game's only other points.

Culbert -- who got the start in the West secondary -- finished with one tackle and one pass breakup as the West offense held the East offense to just 121 yards of total offense.  Harlon Hill finalist Nick Graziano of Arkansas Tech completed just 9 of 20 passes for 52 yards for the East, while former Grand Valley State quarterback Brad Iciek completed just 2 of 14 passes for 35 yards for the East.

Garza was 15 of 27 for 146 yards and one score for the West, while former Northwest Missouri State running back LaRon Council ran the ball 10 times for 55 yards.
