SAN ANGELO –Abilene Christian (5-3) win their conference opener as they defeat Angelo State (6-3) in double overtime 2-1 Friday evening at San Angelo. A goal in double overtime from Freshmen Julie Coppedge gives the Wildcats their second overtime victory in as many games.
The Wildcats took the lead in the second half when senior Lyndsey Womack scored her second goal of the season as she drove into the ASU zone giving ACU a 1-0 lead. Womack and the Wildcats outshot the 'Belles through regulation and in overtime.
Before regulation ended Brandie DeBacker scored on a header for ASU off a corner kick from Christian Willman. Debacker's goal tied the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute sending the Wildcats into their third overtime in four games.
Coppedge's second game winning goal comes much like the first as she scored on a rebound in the second overtime period. The goal now gives Coppedge three as the Wildcats finish their non-conference slate.
ACU will host UT-Brownsville on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the ACU Soccer Pitch. It is the last non-conference game before the Wildcats host Northeastern State October 2nd.
