ABILENE – The ACU women's soccer team has improved in each season and they have continued the trend with a 2-1 victory on a blustery senior day at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch. Senior Alyson Thomas played a part in the final home regular season match as she hit a free kick that was headed into the net by freshmen Krysta Grimm for the victory on Sunday afternoon.
In an uneventful first half the Wildcats held the Lions without a shot in the period. The Wildcats wasted no time as they opened up the second period by scoring the first goal when freshmen Lexi Stirling made a pass across the box to junior Lyndsey Womack for her fourth goal of the season.
However, the Lions wasted little time firing back when Chelsey Haight dribbled a loose ball around Wildcat goalkeeper, Crissy Lawson and was able to tie the game on the empty net.
Wildcats continued to control the ball the rest of the half as they outshot TAMCU 17-4. Before Grimm's goal the Wildcats felt the urgency to capture the victory on senior day as they took four shots in four minutes as a header from Stirling hit the crossbar and barely missed the net.
ACU seniors were able to walk away with a win in their final home regular season match on Sunday pushing their record to 10-4-1 and 5-1-1 in the Lone Star Conference. TAMCU fell to 8-6 on the season and 3-3 in the LSC.
The Wildcats are currently ranked-No.5 in the South Central Region and hold the top spot in the LSC one point ahead of Central Oklahoma. ACU will finish their final three regular season games on the road starting with Eastern New Mexico on Friday October 23.
