ABILENE -- ACU running back
Bernard Scott, who was the runner-up for the Harlon Hill Trophy in December, has been named first team NCAA Division II all-America for the 2007 season by Don Hansen's Football Gazette.
Scott was one of six Wildcats who earned all-America honors from the publication, although he was the only first teamer from a squad that led the nation in points scored and points per game and ranked in the top 10 in the nation in total offense, rushing offense and passing offense and led the nation in fewest sacks allowed. Placekicker
Matt Adams was a third selection, while quarterback
Billy Malone, receivers
Jerale Badon and
Johnny Knox and offensive lineman
Nathan Young were honorable mention selections.
Scott set two NCAA Division II single-season records in 2007 as he scored 39 total total touchdowns (35 rushing) and scored 234 points. He also set the Lone Star Conference single-season rushing record with 2,165 yards on 251 carries. Scott scored at least three touchdowns in nine games as he led the Wildcats to a 10-3 record and the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2007.
