COMMERCE -- Double winners Julius Nyango from the men's team and Sasharine McLarty from the women's team paced Abilene Christian University to a pair of team here Sunday at the 73rd annual Lone Star Conference track and field championships.

Nyango ran 1:51.86 in the 800 and 3:52.82 in the 1,500 to score 20 of the 248 points scored up by the ACU men's team in winning its 14th straight LSC track and field team title.

McLarty won the women's sprints in 11.54 and 23.65 as the Wildcat women came from behind to win, 280 to 211, over runner-up Angelo State.  The Wildcats finished 1-2-3-4 in the 200 and 400 and 1-2-3 in the 800.  It was their second straight title and 22nd in the 24 years of LSC women's track and field.  Keva Wilkins led the sweep in the women's 400 with 53.20 for her third straight league victory in her specialty.

In the men's team race, ACU scored a 96-point victory over Angelo State, second with 152 points.  Tarleton State was third with 83 points.  ACU won 12 of the 21 men's events.

The Wildcats opened Sunday's men's running session with a victory in the 400-meter relay in 41.24, and Nwango followed with a win in the 1,500 to open up a comfortable margin in the team race for the Wildcat men, 151-103.  His win in the 1,500 was ACU's 15th straight in the LSC 1,500.

Also for the Wildcat men, Andrew McDowell captured the 110 hurdles in 14.10, Johnny Jacob was the 400 winner in 46.85, and Serge Gasore won the 5,000 in 15:16.36 to add to his 10,000 from Saturday.  McDowell's win was ACU's first in the LSC men's 110 hurdles since 2002.

Marvin Bien-Aime, denied his third straight LSC title in the 100 by Tarleton State's Calvin Graham, was a decisive winner in the 200 in 20.77.  Earlier Sunday in the field events, Kyle Dennis of Abilene Christian sailed over 17-1 to take the pole vault.

McLarty, transfer from Southwestern Christian in her first year with the Wildcats, upset defending champion Kim Prather, her teammate at ACU, in both sprints.

The ACU women scored 28 points each in the 200 and 400, and they got another 24 points in the 800 for 80 of their 280 points.  Texas A&M-Kingsville was third in the team race with 82 points.  The Wildcats won 12 of the 22 women's events.

The Wildcat women also took the relays in 45.49 and 3:44.07 and got wins Sunday from Denise Morgan in the 800 (2:16.50), Angie Aguilar in the pole vault (12-10), Liga Klavina in the shot put (meet record 49-1.5 to erase her own mark from 2004) and Loice Cheboi in the 5,000 (18:46.31 after winning the 10,000 Saturday).

It was Aguilar's third straight victory in the LSC women's pole vault.  The Wildcats have won the LSC women's vault each year since it was added to the meet in 1999.
