Wildcats earn bid to regional
ACU to take on Central Oklahoma in opening game
ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats have earned a second straight at-large bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Region softball tournament, and will begin play Thursday at the Sunrise Optimist Complex in Wichita Falls.
The Wildcats (41-17) are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and will play No. 7 seed Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will begin Thursday and conclude Monday with the if-necessary championship game. Each game of the Wildcats' run through the tournament will be broadcast on KYYW 1470 AM.
ACU is in the same half of the bracket at No. 3 seed Regis (Colo.), No. 6 seed St. Edward's and No. 7 seed Central Oklahoma. The Wildcats are 13-10 this season against the teams in the regional tournament, but are 3-0 against the teams in their half of the bracket.
The Wildcats beat Central Oklahoma, 12-3, in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament on Feb. 24 in Irving, using a 10-run sixth inning to beat the Bronchos.
