ACU rolls to 11th straight win
Wildcats open LSC South play with win over Kingsville
ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats ran their winning streak to 11 straight matches Thursday night with a three-game dismantling of Texas A&M-Kingsville in the Lone Star Conference South Division opener for both teams at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats are now 11-3 overall and 1-0 in the LSC South, while Kingsville falls to 4-11 and 0-1. ACU will return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Wildcats go to Stephenville to take on Tarleton State at Wisdom Gym.
Thursday night's match was to have been played in Kingsville, but it was moved to Abilene on Tuesday after concern mounted over the impending landfall of Hurricane Rita along the Texas Gulf Coast. So instead of opening defense of their LSC South Division title on the road, the Wildcats opened at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats wasted no time making certain that Thursday's match would be their 27th straight home victory. ACU won the first game 30-22, then went on to finish out the match with wins of 30-10 and 30-17 in games two and three, respectively.
The Wildcats hit an astounding .469 as a team with 54 kills and only nine errors in the match. ACU had 11 total blocks (2 solo, 18 assists) as a team, and limited the Lady Javelinas to a hitting percentage of .000.
ACU had four players hit at least .370 in the match, led by senior rightside hitter Ashlee Motola, who hit .733 (11 kills and no errors). Senior middle blocker Amanda Slate hit .522 (15 kills and three errors); sophomore outside hitter Abbie Lowry hit .500 (9 kills and one errors), and senior outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt hit .370 (15 kills) for the Wildcats.
Senior setter Lindsey Martin had 48 assists in the match, while Bernhardt led the team with 13 digs.
