Wildcats roll to win No. 22
ACU extended its winning to 22 stright with a 3-1 win over Lady Javs
KINGSVILLE -- The nationally ranked ACU Wildcats stretched their winning streak to 22 straight matches Saturday with a 3-1 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star Conference South Division match at the Steinke P.E. Center.
The Wildcats -- ranked No. 13 in the nation -- improved to 22-3 on the season and 7-0 in the LSC South Division, while the Lady Javelinas fell to 9-17 and 4-3. ACU will return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when it takes on Angelo State at the Junell Center in San Angelo. The game will be broadcast locally on KYYW 1470, and can be heard on the internet at www.teamline.cc.
The Wildcats won the first game, 30-23, before falling 31-29 in the second game. ACU, however, rebounded to win the final two games, 30-17 and 30-24, to take the match. ACU ran its LSC South Division winning streak to 11 straight matches dating back to Oct. 23, 2004. The Lady Javs, however, did stop ACU's LSC South Division game winning streak at 31 straight. The last time ACU had lost a game in an LSC South Division game was the fourth game of a four-game loss at Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 21, 2004.
Senior middle blocker Amanda Slate led the Wildcats with 20 kills (.586 hitting percentage) to go along with seven service aces, five total blocks and five digs. Slate now 1,414 kills in her career, and needs just 31 kills to move into fourth place on ACU's all-time kills list.
ACU's all-time leader in kills, senior outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt, had 10 kills and now has 1,971 career kills. She needs just 29 more kills to become only the fourth player in LSC history and 26th player in NCAA Division II history to collect 2,000 career kills.
Senior rightside hitter Ashlee Motola had 11 kills, while senior setter Lindsey Martin dished out 47 assists to give her 1,145 on the season and 5,347 for her career.
