Wildcats add two more for 2004-05

One of new additions is Harding transfer

ABILENE -- ACU head coach Shawna Lavender announced recentlythat she has added two players for the 2004-05 roster, including Haley Hammond, a transfer from Harding University.

Hammond, who was a prep standout at Granbury High School, is joined for next season by Miki Mays of Lake County Christian School in Azle, who signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Wildcats.  Hammond and Mays bring the new number of Wildcats on next year's roster to five as they join high school signees Jaymie Harner of The Woodlands, Alex Guiton of Fort Worth Christian and Ashlee Barr of Lake Dallas.

Hammond averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season for the Lady Bisons,who finished 5-11 overall and 1-15 in the Gulf South Conference.  The 6-0 post will be a junior next season for the Wildcats as she joins returnee Jamie Boles at the position for ACU.  Hammond led Harding in scoring twice last season, including scoring a career-high 14 points in a late-season loss at Ouachita Baptist.  She led Harding with 18 blocked shots, and was second on the team with 30 steals.

At Granbury High School, she played under legendary Texas girl's high school coach Lita Andrews, and as a senior she earned District 8-4A MVP honors.  As a senior she led the Lady Piratesto a 30-4 record and runner-up finish at the state tournament.

Mays was a four-year letterwinner for Lake County Christian School, and last season she led her team to a 29-9 record and a state runner-up finish.  A three-time first team all-state selection, she led her team to a state championship as a junior in 2002-03.  Last year as a senior she averaged 18.1 points, 2.6 assists and 2.86 steals per game.
