ACU hosts Lady Savages

Wildcats host SE Oklahoma State

ACU looking to get back on track starting Thursday

ABILENE – The ACU women's basketball team will return to action Thursday when they host Southeastern Oklahoma in a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Moody Coliseum.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

The Wildcats (4-6) haven't played since beating Lubbock Christian, 86-52, on Dec. 16 in Moody Coliseum. Junior center Melanie Carter had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the contest, the 26th double-double of her career.

That win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Wildcats, who are 0-2 in crossover games this season with losses at Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State preceding the win over LCU.

Carter – who appears to be fully recovered from an off-season knee injury – leads the Wildcats in scoring at 11.7 points per game, while pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game. Both of those numbers are well off of her career averages of 20.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Junior center Lynsie Blau is second on the club in scoring at 11.4 ppg and first in rebounding at 7.7 rpg.

Sophomore forward Stephanie Riles has made a strong impact in her first season with the Wildcats, averaging 11.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while leading the LSC in field goal percentage at 62.5 percent (50 of 80). Freshman guard Ashley King has been as good as advertised for the Wildcats, averaging 10.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

The Lady Savages of Southeastern Oklahoma State have struggled somewhat just one season after finishing as the NCAA Division II national runner-up. Southeastern is 3-4 and is riding a two-game losing streak entering Thursday's game.

Tera Newman leads the way for the Lady Savages, averaging 19.6 points (3rd in the LSC) and 10.7 rebounds (3rd in the LSC) per game. Vanessa Tice is eighth in the LSC in scoring at 13.7 ppg.
