Maggie Hughes joined the Abilene Christian athletics staff in July 2026 as an academic coordinator for the Wildcats' basketball and baseball programs.
Prior to making her way to Abilene, Hughes served as assistant director of athletics for compliance and business operations at Dallas Baptist University. In that role, she managed departmental budgets, payroll, purchasing, account reconciliations and business operations while administering the university's NCAA compliance program and directing student-athlete academic support initiatives.
Before transitioning into athletics administration, Hughes spent three seasons at Baylor University as director of operations for the women's soccer program, where she coordinated the Bears' day-to-day operations. Hughes began her professional career as a graduate assistant soccer coach at Dallas Baptist from 2020-21. During her time on staff, the Patriots posted a 20-4 record, advanced to the NCAA Division II national semifinals and received United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year accolades in 2021.
As a student-athlete at Dallas Baptist from 2016-19, Hughes established herself as one of the most accomplished players in program history. As a senior, she earned United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America honors and was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, helping lead the Patriots to the program's first undefeated conference season.
A native of McKinney, Texas, the former Maggie Scales graduated from Dallas Baptist with University Honors, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2019. She later earned her Master of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist in December 2024. Hughes married her husband, Luke, in June 2026.
