Clark Harrell, former Abilene Christian quarterback with strong family ties to the university, is in his first season as an assistant coach. He was hired as the running backs coach in May 2026.

Harrell ('11) came to ACU from Abilene’s Wylie High School where he spent the past four years as the quarterbacks and assistant powerlifting coach. He was the head coach at New Diana High School from 2020-21. Harrell served as offensive coordinator Colleyville Heritage (2016), Sealy (2017-18), and Athens (2019), and has also made coaching stops at Sweetwater (2013-14), and Graham (2015).

Harrell played in 11 games from 2008-10 as a quarterback at ACU. He started his collegiate career at Tulsa, where current ACU head coach Keith Patterson was the defensive coordinator.

Harrell is the brother of ACU offensive coordinator Graham Harrell, who was hired in Jan. 2025. However, their ties to ACU extend further. Their parents, Sam (’79) and Kathy (’80), each attended ACU and Sam was inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Achievement Award winner in Oct. 2025.
