Biography
2009 (Junior): Shawna has become one of the best defensive players in NCAA Division II as she earned all-America honors after leading the nation in blocks with 1.58 per set and 190 total blocks as a junior … she also earned all-South Central Region honors named by AVCA and was Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year … she also was third for ACU in kills with 298 (2.48 per set) and led the Wildcats in attacking percentage at .312 … her 190 blocks was the second best single season mark in ACU history while she has accumulated 446 total blocks for her career … she ranks fourth all-time in blocks just 25 behind Lindsay DeHoff and only 54 behind Amanda Slate in second with 500 … a stellar student athlete Hines was also named to the Lone Star Conference All Academic Team
2008 (Sophomore): Hines led the LSC and ranked fourth in NCAA Division II volleyball in blocks per set at 1.26. She led the LSC in total blocks with 136, a total that ranked 14th in the nation. She was voted the LSC Defensive Player of the Year for her efforts. She also ranked seventh in the LSC in hitting percentage at .287 as she put down 268 kills. She was dominant in the Wildcats’ three-match run through the LSC Post-Season Tournament as she finished with 20 total blocks and 27 kills in the three matches, including nine kills and 10 blocks against West Texas A&M in the championship match. Her dominance in the middle landed her on the all-tournament team.
2007 (Redshirt Freshman): Hines led the Lone Star Conference in blocks per game as a freshman (1.33) and tallied 120 total blocks good for fifth in the LSC. Hines was sixth on ACU’s squad with 139 kills and hit .224 the year. Her 120 blocks (28 solo, 92 assists) was the 11th best single-season total in ACU history. In her sophomore season in 2008, she’ll need just 30 blocks to break into the top 10 list for career blocks at ACU. In addition to her all-region honors, she was named second-team all-conference by the LSC’s head coaches. Posted a season-high nine blocks twice (Aug. 31 vs. Incarnate Word, Oct. 6 vs. Emporia State) and had a season-high 13 kills against Texas A&M-Commerce Oct. 18.
High school: Finished her senior season with 116 kills and 72 total blocks on her way to earning honorable mention all-Continental League honors. She was a two-time team captain and won the Top Gun Award as a senior for kills and blocks.
