Kern is listed as a starter at outside linebacker going into the 2007 season after spending the 2006 campaign as a backup.

2006 (Sophomore): Finished the season with six tackles (two solo). He had a pair of two-tackle games against Eastern New Mexico (21-0 ACU win on Sept. 30) and at West Texas A&M (30-27 ACU loss in overtime on Nov. 18).

2005 (Redshirt freshman): Spent the season as a reserve linebacker and saw action in six games (eight tackles).

High school: One of the top two-way players in Central Texas as a senior. As a junior he had 120 tackles and was named first team all-District 14-5A. As a senior, he moved to running back and rushed for 2,400 yards and 35 TDs, earning second team Class 5A all-state honors by the Associated Press. First team Super CenTex by the Waco Tribune-Herald.
