ABILENE — Abilene Christian Baseball is proud to announce that three Wildcats—Zandt Payne, Dominick Reid, and Diego Cardenas—have been named to the 2025 ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region Second Team, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association this week.
The ABCA has recognized NCAA Division I All-Region teams since 1949. The ABCA/Rawlings All-Region and All-America teams are among the most prestigious honors in college baseball.
This recognition honors standout performances across NCAA Division I programs in the Central Region and places Payne, Reid, and Cardenas among the elite players in the region this season.
Payne had a consistent presence at shortstop and in the lineup, showcased exceptional leadership and offensive production throughout the year. Even though Payne was out for a month with a minor injury, he was still able to lead the team in batting average, .376, as well as on base % at .490. Payne also received multiple postseason honors including making First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Tournament Team.
Reid was a dominant force on the mound, delivered a season and career highs for the Wildcats. In his first season as a Wildcat, Reid totaled 112 strikeouts, which marks the first time since 2009 that a Wildcat has reach triple digit strikeouts, and the first in Division I history. Reid was able to receive WAC Pitcher of the Week honors, with making First-Team All-WAC and WAC All-Tournament. Reid also made the CSC Academic All-District team, with the potential of making the CSC Academic All-America team.
Cardenas showed his dominance offensively throughout the season. Leading in five different offensive categories, the Juco transfer made a big difference as the designated hitter. Throughout the conference tournament, Cardenas was able to have a season-high of three home runs in one game and just a two-run homer short of the home-run cycle. Cardenas finished the season with a total of 19 home runs, 67 RBIs and 136 total bases.
