Box Score ABILENE — The ACU Wildcats started their seven-match homestand Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over Lubbock Christian at the Eager Tennis Center, their second victory of the spring season.
The Wildcats are 2-4 on the season and will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 30, when they host UT-Rio Grande Valley on their home courts.
ACU won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point, and a 1-0 match lead going into singles play. The Wildcats won at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles to take the match over the Chaparrals.
Daniel Morozov — who plays No. 1 singles and doubles for the Wildcats — won his singles match, 6-3, 6-4, over Kelly Giese after teaming with Benjamin McDonald to defeat Jordan Georgiev and Giese, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles. Alejandro Verdasco was the only other double winner Saturday for the Wildcats, teaming with Ethan Scribner to win at No. 2 doubles and defeating Marco Seccia at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
The match against LCU was the first of seven straight at home for the Wildcats, who will also play UTRGV (Jan. 30), Hardin-Simmons (Feb. 1), Tyler Junior College (Feb. 14), Trinity (Feb. 15), Lamar (Feb. 22), and UT-Arlington in the first Western Athletic Conference match of the season (Feb. 27).
