ABILENE — The Wildcats will head to their second tournament of the fall season on Monday as they head to the Westwood Country Club in Houston on Monday for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
"We are excited to head down to Houston and play in the Bayou Intercollegiate," head coach Tom Shaw said. "Westwood CC is a course we've played before but we've only in the springtime. I think the fall conditioning of the course will be a much stiffer test for all the teams."
Recap of Argent Financial Classic
Jaime Lewis was in the top 15 while Trenton Johnson and Preston DeFriend finished tied in 16th in the Wildcats' season opening tournament at the Argent Financial Classic.
ACU finished 17th in the 18-team field shooting a total of 32 strokes over par on the weekend. The Wildcats competed in a talented field, which included two teams from host Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, Houston, UL-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, UAB, Southern Mississippi, Nicholls, Troy, Lamar, Western Kentucky, Little Rock, Jacksonville State and Louisiana-Monroe.
The 'Cats Hitting the Course
The Wildcats will be sending six players to compete in the tournament, five for the team and one to compete individually.
As for the team, Johnson, Lewis and DeFriend will all make their second appearance in tournament play this season. Rounding out the team will be Greg Hoyeau and Preston Cooper, both making their first appearance for the Purple and White this season.
Jack Hollingsed will also be making his first appearance this season, competing separately from the team as an individual entry.
"We will be going with a different lineup than we had for our last tournament," Shaw said. "I'm hoping to get some good scores from the newer guys to serve as a catalyst for our team performance this week. The guys did some excellent work for the last two weeks and we are ready to go."
