ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's basketball added a scoring punch to her program on Tuesday with the addition of
Carlota Gomez-Alonso from Madrid, Spain.
"We have signed a very versatile player in Carlota," said ACU Head Coach
Julie Goodenough. "She is a really good scorer on the perimeter, both as a guard and a forward. Carlota has experienced much success already in her college career. She led her team this season to the National JuCo tourney as their leading scorer and leading rebounder. I am excited to be her next head coach and for her to join our Wildcat Family."
Gomez-Alonso, a 5-10 guard/forward, spent the past two seasons at Monroe College in New Rochelle, N.Y. During her sophomore campaign, she led the Mustangs to a 19-11 record and a berth to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. Gomez-Alonso led Monroe in scoring at 16.8 points per game, including a career-high 34-point game on Nov. 19 against Onondaga Community College.
She also led her team in steals at 3.4 per game and her 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game were both second on the team for the 2023-24 season. Gomez-Alonso finished the season with nine double-doubles, capped off by a 20-point, 10-rebound effort in the NJCAA Regional Championship game that helped her take home MVP honors.
"For me, ACU is more than just a place to go; it's a place where I can hone my skills on the court and build lasting relationships and personal growth in a welcome atmosphere," said Gomez-Alonso
