This Week in ACU Softball

ABILENE - Abilene Christian will host UT Arlington this weekend for a three-game conference series.  Originally scheduled for a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday, the coaches opted for a Friday doubleheader with a 90 percent chance of rain on Saturday.

ACU Storylines
UP IN THE RANKS: Kaydee Bennett continues her reign in the NCAA rankings. Bennett is #2 in the Western Athletic Conference (#38 in the NCAA), batting .424. She is #7 in the WAC and #79 in the nation with 50 hits. Bennett is ranked #2 in the conference and #55 in the nation for on-base percentage (.496), #6 in in the league for slugging (.678), #2 in the WAC and #9 in the NCAA for triples (5) and #2 in the conference (#16 in the nation) for triples per game (0.13).
 
Olivia Marble stays consistent with NCAA rankings and is #6 in the WAC (#91 in the NCAA) for batting .398. Marble is #2 in the WAC for doubles (14; #23 in the nation) and doubles per game (0.36; #28 in the nation), and #10 in the conference (#100 in the nation) for hits (49). Sammie Shelander is also ranked at #5 in the league for doubles per game (0.31; #89 nationally), #6 in the WAC for doubles (12; #67 in the NCAA).
 
DOUBLES: The Wildcats are tied for #3 in nation for doubles per game (1.87) and #4 in the WAC. The Cats are also tied for #12 in the nation for doubles (73) and #2 in the WAC.
 
OUT OF THE PARK: ACU is #3 in the WAC for home runs per game (0.72) and #89 in the NCAA. They have 28 home runs this season.
 
THE CATS CAN BAT: The Wildcats are #2 in the conference for slugging (.461), #4 for on-base percentage (.364) and #5 for batting average (.289). They are also #4 in the WAC and #69 nationally for triples per game (0.23).
 
LAST SERIES: ACU took the weekend series in Nacogdoches against Stephen F. Austin. The Cats won the first two games: 2-1 on Friday and 9-4 on Saturday, but fell short of a series sweep with a 0-2 loss the last game. Marble's reached base streak (hit, walk or HBP) is still the longest of the season at 24. Shelander now has the longest hitting streak this season with 18. ACU scored 11 runs from 23 hits and 86 at bats last weekend against SFA.
 
ON DECK: The Wildcats host California Baptist in a three-game set that wraps up the home portion of the schedule for ACU.
