ABILENE – Abilene Christian opens the softball season this weekend with five games at the Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament in El Paso and Lac Cruces.
The Wildcats open with their first look at Western Michigan in El Paso at noon (Central) on Friday, followed by a 6 p.m. (Central) contest with UTEP.
ACU swings out to New Mexico State for a 3 p.m. (Central) doubleheader on Saturday before the finale at UTEP on Sunday at 1 p.m. Central.
Seven of ACU's top eight hitters return and
Talia Nielsen returns after a season in which she was second in the WAC in walks per seven innings.
Last season's Cats were a top 30 team in doubles per game, averaging 1.47, and brought back
Avery Miloch, whose 13 home runs put her in Division I's top 70.
The Chippewas were 18-29 last season.
UTEP and ACU split two games last season. The Miners are coming off an 11-34 season.
New Mexico State took two of three from the Wildcats a year ago and finished 2023 at 21-25.
