ABILENE – Abilene Christian hosts the ACU Tournament this weekend with 10 games over three days at New Mexico, Houston Christian and Marist visit Poly Wells Field.
The tournament begins with a pair of neutral-field games on Friday with Marist playing Houston Christian at 10 a.m. and New Mexico at 1 p.m. ACU takes the field for the final two games on Friday, playing Houston Christian at 4 p.m. and New Mexico at 7 p.m.
Saturday's schedule has Marist playing HCU at 10 a.m. and the Wildcats at 1 p.m. ACU plays New Mexico again at 4 p.m. with UNM facing HCU in the 7 p.m. game.
Marist plays New Mexico Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with the Wildcats wrapping up the tournament with a 1 p.m. game against HCU.
ACU is 0-5 on the season after a tough road start in UTEP's tournament.
Kaydee Bennett leads the Wildcats with a .385 batting average and one home run while
Sammie Shelander is hitting .333.
Marist will open the season at the tournament after a 29-30 season last year. The Red Foxes return Haley Ahr, who batted .379 with 49 RBIs. Kiley Myers was 13-7 with a 2.58 earned run average in the circle last season.
Houston Christian is 2-1 after a nice showing in the Alabama State Stinger Classic. Keely Castillo is hitting .500. Kynleigh Evans and Katy Janes started the three games but neither figured in the decision.
New Mexico is 1-4 this season with a doubleheader at UTEP on Wednesday. Keyannah Chavez and Ashley Archuleta are both hitting .429 and Chloe Yeatts has two home runs to go with a .357 batting average.
