COLLEGE STATION - The Abilene Christian University Cross Country teams wrapped up their 2024 season this morning at the NCAA Division I South Central Regional, held under sunny skies in College Station, Texas. The regional, which featured many of the top collegiate runners in the nation, served as a culminating test for the Wildcats as they competed against a deep and talented field.
The women took to the course first, racing in the 6K at 9 a.m. Senior Katelyn Coldicott, who has been a consistent leader for the Wildcats all season, led the team with a 99th-place finish in 21:56.2. Freshman Hannah Kasper followed closely behind in 110th place with a time of 22:05.1. Junior Peyton Bornstein, a key contributor throughout the season, crossed the line in 22:08.1 for 114th place. Despite the challenges of the race, the women showcased resilience and teamwork, placing 25th in the team standings.
The men's 10K began at 10 a.m., shifting from their usual 8K race distance. Freshman Andruw Villa delivered a standout performance for ACU, finishing 26th at 30:22.2, narrowly missing an All-Region spot. Freshman Mark Barajas was the second Wildcat to cross the line, completing the race in 32:09.2 for 86th place. Freshman Vincent Luffey placed 96th in 32:19.3, followed by freshman Carlos Cortez (32:28.5, 102nd) and sophomores Jacob Russell (33:11.1, 125th) and Zachary Martin (33:11.2, 126th). The men's team secured 16th place overall, competing against powerhouse programs across the region.
As the cross country season comes to a close, the Wildcats are already turning their attention to the upcoming track and field season. With many of the same athletes transitioning to compete on the track, the team is eager to build on the momentum gained during the fall.Â
