LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Abilene Christian went 7-1 in singles in the first round of the New Mexico State Invitational on Friday.

"Excited to get back out on the court and compete," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "We started a little slow this morning in doubles. We fought a little bit of nerves and rust. But when we got over to singles we picked up the energy and won seven out of eight matches. Proud of our effort to finish up today. Looking to keep getting better throughout the weekend!"

Maryjoe Crisologo won their singles matches in the Crimson Draw, both in straight sets.

Olivia Sears roared back from a first-set loss in her opening match to win in three sets and joined teammate
Libby Blair in the winner's bracket of the White Draw.

Masha Vrsalovic moved forward in the Black Draw with straight-set wins.

In the Grey round-robin,
Hebe Toyos scored a straight-set win.

ACU's results were not as good in doubles.
Eva Arranz and
Andrea Guerrero were the only Wildcats to advance to the quarterfinals.
