ABILENE –
Chayse Thorn collected her second brace of the season and Abilene Christian posted its fourth shutout in as many games this season for a 4-0 win over Nicholls on Sunday.
Lili Ross and
Savanna Alba got the combined shutout for the Wildcats with each picking up a save in their half.
"Four shutouts in four games and pretty much by committee," said ACU Head Coach Stephen Salas. "We had Lili and Sav in goal and the backline was just impressive overall."
Jordan Michie added a goal and an assist and
Georgia Guenther got on the board as well.
"I told Jo she was going to score and assist today and she did. That was special," Salas said. "Chayse got on the end of two and Georgia had a good cleanup. We had talked about finishing balls in the box it was good to see her put the ball in the back of the net."
Thorn got the game-winner in the 18th minute, using a feed from
Jordan Michie and burying the ball into the bottom left of the goal.
Michie scored in the 20th minute for the 2-0 lead.
Guenther added the final tally, playing home a shot into the bottom right of the goal.
Thorn added her second goal of the match in the 88th minute.
Thorn posted her second two-goal game of the season, her first coming in the 3-0 win at Texas Southern. She had a pair of braces last season as well.
ACU is off to the best start in its Division I era at 3-0-1 and has four shutouts to start the season for the first time.
"The team is really clicking and coming together," Salas said. "Our trajectory is high right now and we want to continue to build. There's still a lot of soccer to be played but we're doing really well and it's exciting."
The Cats host Texas-Permian Basin on Friday and travel to Texas Tech on Sept. 3.
