Softball heads to Phoenix for non-conference weekend at GCU

ABILENE - The Wildcats will make the trip to Phoenix this weekend to participate in the GCU Invitational. ACU and GCU will not match up in the regular season conference schedule but the two will meet twice this weekend. This will also give the Wildcats a chance to play at the host site for this year's WAC tournament. In addition to facing the Lopes, ACU will matchup with the Ram of Colorado State, the teams played each other twice last season, with ACU going 2-0. 

ALL ABOUT THE 'CATS

  • Wildcats closed out last weekend with a 3-2 win over Dartmouth, winning in walk-off fashion on an RBI single from Sadie Eichelberger, her second walk-off of the season.
  • Miranda Lista and Sammie Shelander are leading the Wildcats in batting average at .327. Shelander leads the team with 13 RBI for the year.
  • Riley White is coming off her best pitching performance of the season. The junior went 6.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win over Dartmouth last weekend. 

SCOUTING THE LOPES

  • Grand Canyon comes into the weekend with a 21-2 record, their only losses coming to Oregon State and No.12 Washington. The Lopes have played most of their season at home, garnering a 16-2 record in home games.
  • As a team, they are hitting .345 on the season with Hannah Burnett leading the way with a .426 average. Five Lopes have 22 or more hits on the year with Kristin Fifield leading the way with 28 hits. 
  • The Lopes hold a 1.68 ERA as a team. Taryn Batterton and Hailey Hudson each have sub-one ERA's with an 0.91 and 0.95, respectively. 

SCOUTING THE RAMS

  • Colorado State is 10-6 on the season and holds a 4-1 record against WAC schools. 
  • Maya Matsubara leads the team with a .389 batting average in 14 games played. Molly Gates leads the team with 22 hits on the year. 
  • The pitching staff holds a 4.10 ERA with Sydney Hornbuckle leading the team with a 2.79 ERA.
