ACU keeps pace with Bulldogs on the road

STARKVILLE, Miss.– Just one day after playing tightly with Mississippi State through four innings, the Wildcats took the Bulldogs down to the wire on Saturday afternoon. Abilene Christian struck first in the top of the first only for MSU to answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Wildcats took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth, but once again the Bulldogs answered taking the 4-3 lead. ACU was able to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh and Mississippi State walked it off with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With two outs in the top of the first inning, Avery Miloch took a 3-2 pitch deep over the center field wall to put ACU up 1-0.
  • The Bulldogs answered with an RBI double to bring in an unearned run and tie the game.
  • Miranda Lista opened the top of the fifth with a walk, she reached third after a bunt single and a fielder's choice and then scored on a wild pitch to give ACU the 2-1 lead.
  • Miranda Davila came through with an RBI single in the same inning to bring Isabel Martinez home and put ACU up 3-1.
  • After allowing two hits in the bottom of the fifth, Talia Nielsen was pulled, and Bubba Rote entered the circle in relief. Two runs scored off wild pitches and an RBI single allowed the Bulldogs to take a 4-3 lead.
  • Catrin Hoffman drew a walk in a pinch-hit appearance to lead off the seventh and the Olivia Taylor reentered to run for Hoffman. Shaylee Alani reached on an error, and made it all the way to third, with Taylor able to score to tie the game 4-4.
  • Mississippi State had the answer in the bottom of the seventh as a bunt single, a fly out to left to advance the runner, and then an RBI single brought in the winning run.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Miloch launched her team-leading fifth homerun of the season. She is now just two away from her season total from last year.
  • Davila's RBI single was her third hit of the season and her first RBI on the year.
  • Lista drew her team-leading eighth walk of the season.

  • The Wildcats will face Dartmouth tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. to close out the weekend.
