COLLEGE STATION –
Daniel Morozov scored a split-set win at No. 2 singles for Abilene Christian in a 6-1 loss at No. 27 Texas A&M Tuesday.
Â
Morozov knocked off Matthis Ross, 6-4, 2-7, 10-7.
Â
"That was a very good match for Dani," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "He had a rough fall semester and this is the level we knew he could play at from day one. I'm so happy for him."
Â
ACU battled well in other matches as well.
Dario Kmet fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 1 singles to No. 109 Trey Hilderbrand and
Cesar Barranquero lost in three sets to Rahul Dhokia on the fourth line, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6.
Â
Kmet and Barranquero also push No. 78 Hildrebrand-Noah Schacter at No. 1 doubles before falling, 6-4.
Â
"We really played well all the way around," said Nunez. "Dario had a lot of chances with seven or eight break points but the other guy was a strong server. Cesar may have just run out of gas, as is to be expected having just returned from his back injury. Ben and Mihaly had tough first sets but really battled in close sets after that."
Â
The 8-9 Wildcats take on Illinois on a neutral court at Baylor in Waco Friday at 11 a.m.
