Cats Have Great Final Round at GCU

PHOENIX – Abilene Christian rolled out its best round of the Grand Canyon Invitational on Tuesday, shooting a team 281 to finish 10th in the team standings.

All five Wildcats improved on their second round and four had their best round or matched their best round in the final 18. It was the best single round by the team this season.

"It was a much better day for the boys," said ACU Head Coach Tom Shaw. "We started off strong and were headed for the low round of the day before some late bogeys set us back a bit. It's always good to move up the leaderboard during the final round."

Thomas Buisson matched his first round with a third-round 70 and finished 19th at 213. He ended the 54 holes with eight birdies, including two on holes 9 and 10 on Tuesday.

Logan Diomede had a fantastic finish with a 68 to move up to 28th place. Diomede posted six birdies in the final round (holes 2, 3, 4, 14, 16 and 18) and finished with eight birdies over the three rounds.

Buisson and Diomede were solid throughout. Buisson parred 39 holes and Diomede 38 with both finishing in the tournament's top five in pars.

"I'm very happy for Thomas Buisson and Logan Diomede - they both led the way for us with terrific play all week," said Shaw. "Hopefully we can carry this momentum into our next tournament down in Houston, where we play against some of the top teams in the country."

Gregoire Hoyeau's final round 71 landed him in 41st place at 218. Hoyeau finished the tournament with a team-best 10 birdies after getting four on holes 2, 3, 4 and 15 on Tuesday.

Charlie Jackson had his best round of the tournament at 72 to finish at 226 and Brian Comegys was a stroke behind at 227 after a final round of 76. Jackson eagled the 546-yard, par-5 10th hole on Tuesday and finished the tournament with nine birdies. Comegys added four birdies, two coming on Tuesday (5 and 10).

The Cats return to action next week in Humble, Texas, at The All-American, hosted by Houston at the Golf Club of Houston.
