Softball heads on the road to face ULM

ABILENE – The Wildcats head on a long road trip this week as they head to Monroe, La. to face the Warhawks of ULM for a midweek before continuing on to Mississippi State for a weekend tournament. Abilene Christian is coming off a 1-4 weekend with three games against top-10 competition in Austin last weekend while ULM is coming off a 4-1 weekend in Birmingham with wins over UAB and Cleveland State.

ACU STORYLINES

  • HOT HITTING | The Wildcats were ranked in the top-40 of the country in five offensive categories after the first two weekends of action. ACU is till ranked 17th in the NCAA for total doubles on the season with 25, tied for the lead in the WAC with Grand Canyon. The team is currently third in the WAC for batting average at .299 and fourth in the league for slugging percentage at .450, both marks in the top-70 of the NCAA. 
  • READY IN RELIEF | After a couple of rough pitching starts last weekend, ACU had several great performances out of the bullpen. Riley White put together 3.1 innings of solid work after six early runs came in against Texas last Saturday. She gave up just three hits and two earned runs in that stretch. After two runs came across in Sunday's game against Virginia Tech it was once again White who came in to throw five solid innings for ACU. Against VT she again gave up just three hits and one earned run as the team battled to a 4-1 loss. 
  • DOUBLES AND DINGERS | While the team is ranked 17th on the year for doubles, Miranda Lista is also ranked 17th in the NCA individually for doubles with six on the season. Avery Miloch ranks 58th in the NCAA and second in the WAC for homeruns with four on the year. Miloch totaled just seven homeruns in her sophomore campaign and is already halfway to surpassing that number in 2023. 
  • IN THE CIRCLE | Talia Nielsen and Riley White have handled the bulk of the pitching this season with 38 and 35.1 innings pitched, respectively. Nielsen leads the team with a 4.79 ERA and a 3-3 record on the year. White is holding opponents to the lowest batting average, .306, but has issued 34 walks on the year. 

SCOUTING ULM (11-7, 0-0 SUN BELT)

  • The Warhawks have played eight games at home on the year and are 5-3 in those contests. The team hosted No. 18 LSU falling 9-3 in front of a record crowd. In their two tournaments away from home, they picked up key wins over Cal, UC Davis, UAB, and Cleveland State. 
  • Lourdes Bacon leads the team with a .383 batting average and has a team-high 23 hits on the year. Kennedy Johnson leads the team in slugging percentage with a .527 mark on the year and six extra-base hits. 
  • ULM has used six different pitchers on the year and as a team hold a 2.81 ERA. Gianni Hulett and Victoria Abrams lead the team in innings pitched with 35.2 and 35, respectively. Hulett is 3-1 on the year and Abrams is 2-2. Adrianna Chavarria leads the team in ERA with a 2.41 and 29 innings pitched.
