AUSTIN, Texas– The Wildcats split their games on the second day of the Lone Star State Invitational. ACU opened the day with a solid 6-1 win over Texas Southern before dropping the nightcap to ninth-ranked Texas 8-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
- The Wildcats first got on the board in the third inning. Sydney Kaiser drew a leadoff walk and reached third on a bunt single by Mercedes Eichelberger. Back-to-back doubles from Miranda Lista and Avery Miloch drove in three runs to take the early lead.
- TSU loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Talia Nielsen was able to get out of the inning unscathed.
- With two outs in the top of the sixth, Olivia Taylor and Shaylee Alani hit back-to-back doubles to push the ACU lead to 4-0.
- In the top of the seventh, Lista drew a walk and Miloch hit another double to put runners on second and third. A wild pitch brought Lista home and a groundout RBI from Sammie Shelander brought in another to put ACU up 6-0.
- The Tigers tacked on a single unearned run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Wildcats closed it out for the win.
Game 2
- The Longhorns did all their damage in the first inning. They tallied six hits in the inning leading to eight runs.
- Riley White pitched 3.1 innings in relief and after giving up a walk and a homerun in the first, put together four solid innings of work.
- The Wildcats tallied two hits and drew three walks, but were unable to get a runner home.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Miloch went 3-6 on the day with two doubles and two RBI. She also extended her reached base streak to 10 games.
- Nielsen earned the complete game win with no earned runs in the win over TSU.
- ACU registered double-digit hits in the win over TSU, their fourth time doing so this season.
ON DECK:
- The Wildcats will close out the weekend with a single game tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. against Virginia Tech.
