Islanders Trim ACU

SAN ANTONIO – Abilene Christian absorbed its second one-run loss in a row as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held off the Wildcats 6-5 in the I-35 Tournament on Sunday.
 
Bubba Rote delivered an early lead with a two-run single in the first inning.
 
The Islanders tied the game with ruins in the second and fourth inning, but Miranda Lista gave the lead back to the Cats in the fifth with an RBI single to center.
 
Corpus Christi put up four runs in the sixth and Avery Miloch got two of those back with a two-run home run to left in the home half.
 
ACU got a runner aboard in the seventh but couldn't come up with the run.
 
Catrin Hoffman had two hits to pace the nine-hit attack for the Wildcats.
 
Riley White was charged with the loss.
 
The Cats return to action for five more games in the Lone Star Invitational next weekend where they will play Texas Southern and Virginia Tech twice with a prime-time game on Saturday against Texas.
