Softball Set for Another 5-Game Weekend

ABILENE – Abilene Christian softball heads to the San Antonio area for five games at two sites over three days in the I-35 Tournament at Texas State and Texas-San Antonio this weekend.
 
The Wildcats open with two games on Friday in San Antonio, taking on Lamar at noon and UTSA at 2:30 p.m. ACU goes to San Marcos on Saturday to play Lamar at noon and South Dakota State at 5 p.m. ACU closes the trip with a 10 a.m. contest on Sunday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in San Antonio.
 
Mercedes Eichelberger and Miranda Lista bring hot bats into the weekend after hitting .526 and .500, respectively. Eichelberger and Shaylee Alani had five RBIs each and Bubba Rote rode three doubles to a team-leading .692 slugging percentage.
 
Talia Nielsen got the bulk of the work in the circle for ACU last weekend, posting a 2-1 record with nine strikeouts.
 
Lamar comes in at 0-6 after a loss at Texas on Wednesday. Aleka Xayaseng leads the team with a .375 batting average. The team was batting .107 heading into the Texas game.
 
UTSA is 0-5 after a fruitless trip to Huntsville for the Bearkat Classic. Madison Lenton leads the team with a .417 batting average while Ciarra Mata has produced five RBIs. The team sports a 6.89 team earned run average.
 
South Dakota State is 5-2, including a shutout of Nebraska, after splitting a doubleheader at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. Tori Tollefson leads the team at .417 with four RBIs. Tori Kniesche has pitched 25 shutout innings with 25 strikeouts.
 
Corpus Christi is 3-2, including two wins over ACU in the Wildcat Invitational. Sidney Campion is hitting .500 (7-14) and Gabriella Torres leads the Islanders with 11 RBIs. Sydney Hoyts carries a 1.75 earned run average into the weekend.
