ABILENE – Three Abilene Christian University volleyball players earned a spot on the Academic All-District team sponsored by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday.
Breanna Box, Ashli Edmiston and Madeline Guffy received the honor.
The 2023 Academic All-District Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom and requires a cumulative 3.50 grade point average and a significant on-court contribution.
Box, a graduate student from Wichita Falls, started all 29 matches at middle blocker. She averaged 2.17 kills per set with a .335 attack percentage. She had 0.54 blocks per set and led the team with 49 block assists. She is getting her master's degree in psychology.
Edmiston, a sophomore outside hitter from Wilsonville, Ore., averaged 2.68 kills per set. She is working toward a degree in management.
Guffy, a junior setter from Krum, led the team with 9.24 assists per game and 42 aces. She also had 2.15 digs per set. She is a kinesiology major.
"Big congratulations to Brea, Ashli, and Madeline for their on-court and in-classroom efforts paying off," said ACU Head Coach Ijeoma Moronu Alstrup. "All three athletes worked hard in the gym every day as well as in the classroom. In the ACU volleyball program, we value education and are so proud of these three student-athletes for showing just that."
The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
