ABILENE – Abilene Christian this week announced its baseball schedule, which includes a return to Globe Life Park and eight games against Power 5 teams.
"Each year we try our best to put together a very competitive schedule to challenge our players and allow our program to continue to grow," said ACU Head Coach Rick McCarty. "We are excited about how the 2024 schedule came together, as scheduling is becoming more of a challenge each year. We feel like the venues we are competing in and the teams we are playing will prepare us for an extended postseason that begins in Mesa for the WAC tournament."
The season opens in Abilene with the Wildcats entertaining Northern Illinois in four games on Feb. 16-18 before heading back to Globe Life to take on Oklahoma State on Feb. 21.
"We are looking forward to opening up here in Abilene, before heading to play OSU at Globe Life Park-- home of the 2023 World Series Champions," said McCarty. "In March, we have a stretch of nine straight road games, that includes midweek games at Baylor, TCU, & UTSA. So that will be a challenging stretch as we open up WAC play as well. We will finish the year with 16 of our last 23 games at Crutcher Scott Field."
After the trip to Arlington, the Wildcats host Penn for four games Feb. 23-25 before starting that stretch of nine road games on Feb. 28 at Baylor. ACU visits Texas A&M Corpus Christi on March 1-3, TCU on March 5 and opens league action at Tarleton State on March 8-10. The road swing ends at UTSA on March 12.
Texas Arlington visits for ACU's first home WAC series on March 15-17, followed by a trip to Texas Tech on March 19. The Cats then swing west for a three-game set at Sacramento State on March 22-24. The March games wind down at home with Utah Valley coming to Abilene March 28-30.
April begins with a trip to the University of Texas on the second and a conference trip to Stephen F. Austin on April 5-7.
Texas Tech visits at 6:05 p.m. on April 9 and the Cats entertain UC-Davis on April 12-14.
After TCU comes in for a 6:05 p.m. game on April 16, the Cats return to WAC action at home against California Baptist on April 19-21.
ACU hosts Tarleton State on April 9 and heads to Utah for four games – visiting Utah Tech on April 26-28 and Brigham Young on the 29th.
The Cats host UT-Rio Grande Valley on May 3-5 and Incarnate Word on May 7 before launching the final regular-season road trip to Grand Canyon on May 10-12.
The regular season winds down at home May 16-18 with Seattle University coming to Abilene.
"Overall, we will play 14 games versus teams in the top 100 RPI in 2023-- along with eight games versus Power 5 opponents," McCarty said. "We want to take several steps forward as a program in 2024 and we would love our community to be here for each one of them, so we want to welcome all of the Big Country out for our 30 homes games."
