ABILENE – Abilene Christian will have its hands full when Prairie View A&M visits Moody Coliseum for the Wildcats' home opener at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Wildcats enter at 1-1 after beating Oklahoma State and falling at North Carolina State last week.
Prairie View is 1-2 this season. After opening with a win over Kansas Christian, the Lions lost at Seattle, 71-60, and at Washington State, 83-65.
ACU Storylines
HOME OPENERS: The Wildcats have not lost a home opener since moving to NCAA Division I. Last year's nine-point win over Jackson State was the closest home opener since 2013.
HOWDY: ACU and Prairie View meet on the basketball court for the first time.
BIG WIN: The Wildcats had a fantastic start to the season, knocking off Oklahoma State in Stillwater, 64-59.
Airion Simmons was huge with 11 points and 11 rebounds while
Ali Abdou Dibba had a team-leading 15 points.
FIRE AND STUFF: Cameron Steele leads the Wildcats in three-point shooting percentage, having knocked down three of six attempts for 50 percent. He's also the team leader with three blocked shots.
ARCH ENEMY: ACU's defense has thwarted opponents from the three-point arch. The Wildcats are 58th nationally and first in the WAC with a 24.4 percent three-point percentage defense through two games.
BIG DUDE BEING HUGE: Airion Simmons not only leads the team with his six rebounds per game, but he's also the team leader with six assists through two games.
THE GREATEST: Ali Abdou Dibba leads the Wildcats with an 11.0 scoring average. He had 15 at Oklahoma State and seven at North Carolina State.
Scouting Prairie View A&M
- Charles Smith IV leads the team with 17 points per game. Smith is seventh in Division I with 48 field goal attempts through three games and he also does a great job at getting to the free throw line. He is 16th nationally with 20 free throw attempts this season.
- Javontae Hopkins averages 13 points and eight rebounds per game. The big man also is 10th in Division I with eight steals this season.
- The Lions have four players averaging 10 points or more this season. Charles Smith IV leads with 17 points, followed by Javontae Hopkins at 13, Nick Gazelas at 11.7 and Chgris Felix Jr. at 10.
