Wildcats Third in Fall Finale

LAC CRUCES, N.M. – Abilene Christian continued its improvement on the final day of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing third at even par.

The Wildcats finished at 284 on Tuesday after Monday rounds of 286 and 285 for 855 overall.

Grégoire Hoyeau led the Wildcats in eighth place, shooting a 73 on the final day to finish at 212 and one under par. He had four birdies in the final round on holes 1, 12, 13 and 15 and finished the tournament with 14 birdies.

Charlie Jackson and Preston Cooper tied for 14th at 215. Jackson had the best final round for ACU at 69 with birdies on 1, 8, 13 and 14. Cooper had a 72 on Tuesday with birdies on 6, 9 and 15. For the tournament, both had nine birdies.

Zane Heusel posted a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 217 and in a tie for 22nd place. He had birdies on holes 1 and 14 and finished the tournament with seven.

Trenton Johnson had a 70 on Tuesday to move up to 32nd with birdies on 7, 12, 15 and 16 to finish at 220. He had eight birdies this week.

Golfing as an individual, Jaime Lewis tied for 14th with a final-round 71 that included birdies on 2, 6, 7, 12 and 14. He finished at 215 with 10 birdies in the tournament.

The trip wraps up the fall schedule for the Wildcats, who open the spring semester at the Vaquero Open in Cancun, Mexico, Feb. 5-7.
