WACO – Abilene Christian had a successful first day at the ITA Texas Regional, sending three singles entrants on to the third round and advancing in two doubles teams.
ACU accounted for nine wins on the day.
"We had some really good efforts today," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "Our region is really tough and having everyone with an opportunity to compete tomorrow is a really great thing. I'm excited to see what we can do and hopefully, we can build on the positives of today!"
Maryjoe Crisologo beat a Prairie View A&M opponent in the first round and knocked off Texas Tech's Camryn Stepp to reach the round of 16.
Libby Blair knocked off opponents from Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State to advance to the third round and
Maria Cascos scored wins against Texas-San Antonio and Sam Houston.
Olivia Sears had a first-round win over Lamar but fell in the second round.
Cascos and Sears won their doubles match versus North Texas' Lou Chalard/Carolina Laydner.
Masha Vrsalovic advanced with
Andrea Guerrero with a victory over Texas State.
The four-day tournament continues Friday morning.
