ABILENE – Abilene Christian scored two wins and a workout in shutting out Lubbock Christian and Hardin-Simmons on Friday, 7-0, in both matches.
Â
The Wildcats got a full day of tennis and that was by design. The Eagles are headed toward long weekends against good competition.
Â
"We wanted everybody to be on the court a long time," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "We're on our way to play three mid-major matches that are going to be tough. They are going to require a lot from us. The opponents today were great. They competed they pushed us. Some of the guys that played doubles-singles-doubles singles were starting to feel it a little bit. These are the kind of things that prepare us for the conference tournament where we play three consecutive days. Next week is back-to-back-to-back."
Â
The Wildcats didn't lose a set on the day, going 24-0.
Cesar Barranquero,
Savan Chhabra,
Benjamin McDonald,
Mihaly Deli and
Ethan Scribner all captured two straight-set singles wins. Barrenquero lost only two games along the way.
Â
The Wildcats employed five different doubles tandems in sweeping doubles matches 6-0 for the day.
Â
Chhabra and
Ethan Scribner enjoyed two doubles wins.
Â
The Wildcats head to Colorado Springs next weekend for consecutive matches against East Tennessee State, Montana and Air Force.
