SAPPHIRE, N.C. – The ACU golf team wrapped up the JT Poston Invitational on Tuesday, finishing the event in 10th place as a team.
Zane Heusel was the top Wildcat individual for the second consecutive tournament to begin the fall, turning in a three-round total of 216 to land in a tie for 19th place.
"As we did in Louisiana, our team score improved every round so I like the trend I'm seeing with this young team. We played in conditions that are almost polar opposite from Abilene, so we had some adjusting to do. We still need to get started quicker in the future, but I like the fight that I see with these guys," head coach
Tom Shaw said. "Traveling to North Carolina was a great experience for the team. We learned some valuable lessons that we'll apply to future tournaments at sites similar to the one at Sapphire Valley."
Freshman
Thomas Buisson turned in a 219, good enough to finish in a tie for 31st in just his second collegiate tournament.
Jaime Lewis finished one stroke behind, while
Brian Comegys finished the week with a score of 225.
Karson Grigsby shaved off two strokes from the first round to the second before doing so again from the second to the third.
The Wildcats are back in action next week, when they head to Dallas for their lone in-state tournament of the fall. SMU will serve as the host for the event, with the first round scheduled for Sunday from Trinity Forest Golf Club.
