Heusel strong as ‘Cats open season in Louisiana

CHOUDRANT, LA. – The ACU men's golf team wrapped up the first tournament of the fall season on Tuesday, finishing the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in 18th place. The Wildcats have now taken part in the event for six of the last seven years and have opened the season there three years running.

Zane Heusel led the way for the Purple and White, turning in rounds of 69 and 70 over the final two days to finish in an eight-way tie for 44th individually. Newcomer Thomas Buisson turned in three straight rounds of 73 in his collegiate debut, well fellow freshman Brian Comegys finished the event with a three-round total of 222.

ACU came away with a combined 47 birdies for the week, with Heusel picking up the lone eagle for the 'Cats. The distance holes have been a strength early on, as Abilene Christian finished the tournament at nine under on par fives.

The Wildcats are back in action on Sept. 26, when they head to North Carolina to take part in the JT Poston Invitational.
